Position description
Rhodium Group is looking for an entrepreneurial and talented Research Analyst to join our world-class team of economists, policy and geopolitical analysts, researchers, and data engineers. As a Research Analyst on Rhodium Group’s China Corporate Advisory team, you will support research on China’s economy and policies, US, EU, and G7 China policy and economic dynamics, technology competition, and other China-related global trends of strategic interest to our corporate clients.
Position responsibilities
- Provide research support for client deliverables, including research notes, briefing decks, and email alerts
- Provide research and writing support for longer-form client projects
- Conduct regular tracking of news and policy developments of interest to clients
- Provide research support for business development activities
- Contribute to the firm’s knowledge base on issues related to China’s economy and policies, US-China and EU-China dynamics, global trends relating to China, and sectoral/topical issues of interest to our corporate clients
Qualifications
Competitive candidates will have the following qualifications:
- A master’s degree in international economics, international affairs, China/Asia studies, political science, law, or other relevant fields; or a bachelor’s degree in similar fields plus at least two years of professional experience
- Strong understanding of China’s economy, China-world trade and investment trends, as well as geopolitical dynamics, technology competition, and regulatory trends influencing China’s economic engagement with the world
- Excellent research and data analysis skills with the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports of research results, synthesize policy developments, and shape economic data into succinct and compelling stories
- Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present information clearly and concisely through memos, reports, briefings, and other deliverables
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, capacity for self-directed work and ability to handle multiple time-sensitive projects at once and independently produce client-ready, polished outputs
- Near native-level English writing and speaking skills, as well as high degree of reading proficiency in Chinese (ability to quickly read, summarize, and extract key findings and nuance from Chinese-language newspaper articles and policy documents)
- Strong proficiency with Excel for data analysis and visualization
- Work authorization in the European Union (required)
The following qualifications are a strong plus:
- 1-2 years of professional experience conducting research on China for corporate or government decisionmakers, inclusive of internship experience
- Demonstrated experience in sectoral or industry-level research in areas of importance for US-China or EU-China relations, including but not limited to automotives, semiconductors, biotech, energy/greentech, and chemicals
- Experience with economic and commercial databases, including CEIC, WIND, and Bloomberg Terminal
Location and travel requirements
- The preferred location for this role is Paris, France.
- Occasional domestic and international travel (<5%)
