Director – US Energy Projects
Rhodium Group is recruiting a Director to help lead the company’s US Energy Projects team. Preferred location is Washington, D.C.; New York, NY; Oakland, CA; or Massachusetts.
Position Description
Rhodium is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial Director to help lead the company’s US Energy Projects (USEP) team. Rhodium combines policy expertise with a suite of detailed energy-economic models to help clients understand the impact of energy and climate change policy on economic output, energy markets, and greenhouse gas emissions. The USEP team conducts cutting-edge research and analysis on critical energy system and climate policy issues and is Rhodium’s center of expertise on emerging clean technologies. The new Director will lead key areas of work within our US energy and climate team – a group of policy experts, economists, energy modelers and data engineers – to help decision-makers across the country understand and address some of the most pressing energy and environmental challenges.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead key areas of the firm’s work providing energy and climate research and analysis to a wide range of clients.
- Cultivate and expand Rhodium’s team of researchers on existing and new decarbonization challenges and execute a portfolio of public and private research projects.
- Work directly with clients and external stakeholders to keep the firm at the center of US decarbonization trends and debates.
- Lead and expand existing lines of research and create new research lines and data products over time.
- Actively seek out and retain new clients and expand business opportunities.
Qualifications
Eligible candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, engineering, environmental science, public policy or related disciplines, and 12+ years of experience working on energy and climate.
- Proven command of energy market and policy dynamics in key regions (especially in the US), and familiarity with a wide range of emerging clean energy technologies.
- Familiarity with federal and state climate and energy policies, institutions, and trends.
- Proven track record of business development and client relationship management.
- Experience collaborating with energy experts and modelers, distilling actionable insights, and communicating to a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues in a fast-moving environment, supervise multiple projects and take ownership, mentor, grow and lead a team, and to independently prioritize and troubleshoot.
- Exceptional writing and presentation skills and public engagement experience.
- Experience working in energy modeling or data product development is a plus.
- 5+ years managing direct reports.
- 5+ years managing research, analysis, or product development.
Location and Travel Requirements
- The preferred location for this role is Washington D.C; New York, NY: Oakland, CA; or Massachusetts. Other locations include the state of Washington, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Colorado.
- Occasional domestic travel (<15%)
