In late May, Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are expected to sign a deal to bring an end to the ongoing trade war. This upcoming signing summit raises many questions: What are the prospects for a deal? In what areas will the United States and China find common ground and compromise? What will continue to be points of contention? Moreover, even if a deal is reached, can it effectively solve the underlying tensions in the relationship?

On Thursday, May 2, 2019, Nicholas Consonery, director at Rhodium Group, will present and lead a discussion on the U.S.-China trade war. This program will be highly interactive. Mr. Consonery will share his analysis on what brought the two countries into the current trade conflict, what issues are likely up for negotiation, how to judge whatever deal is announced, and what that deal will mean for the bilateral relationship. The remaining time will be allotted for a group discussion, and participants will be encouraged to ask questions, share their own perspectives, and provide comments.
