Reducing Global Methane Emissions from the Oil and Gas Sector

Please join the Center on Global Energy Policy for a presentation and discussion on reducing global methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Kate Larsen, Director at Rhodium Group, will present the key findings of a report, commissioned by the Environmental Defense Fund from Rhodium Group, on the scope of global methane leakage and the potential for significant abatement in the near-term. Mark Brownstein, Associate Vice President & Chief Counsel, US Climate and Energy Program at the Environmental Defense Fund, will then discuss the policy implications of the report’s findings.

Following the remarks, Center Founding Director Jason Bordoff will moderate a panel discussion on domestic and international opportunities to address methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, including in the Paris climate Negotiations. On the panel Mr. Brownstein and Ms. Larsen will be joined by Keith Benes, Program Director for International Climate Policy at the Center on Global Energy Policy.
