Senior Analyst
Lauren D. Piper is a Senior Analyst on Rhodium’s corporate advisory team, focusing on trade and supply chain diversification.
ChinaPrior to joining Rhodium, Lauren was a Research Associate at the Council on Foreign Relations and a Research Assistant at the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. She was also a Harold W. Rosenthal Fellow at the Office of the US Trade Representative in the Office of South and Central Asian Affairs.
Lauren holds a Master in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from American University. She is based in Rhodium Group’s Washington, DC office.

Trade deals with the EU and potentially the US, alongside other countries’ rising barriers to Chinese goods, offer India an opportunity to capture global export share, even as its manufacturing ecosystem remains less competitive.

Most countries in the Western Hemisphere are not competitive for ex-China diversification, and in the few that are, like Mexico, costs are rising. Reorienting supply chains to the region will therefore be a necessarily gradual effort.

The last time the US imposed sweeping global tariffs, manufacturing supply chains adapted to soften the blow. The current tariff shock is stronger than in 2018, yet uncertainty is also much higher.
