ClimateDeck

The ClimateDeck—a partnership of Rhodium Group and Breakthrough Energy—provides global and US and 50-state greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory data, energy market and emissions forecasts, and analysis of energy and climate policy developments. The ClimateDeck equips users in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and government sectors with comprehensive datasets, unique and responsive insights, and a robust set of tools for tracking pathways to climate targets and understanding the emissions and economic implications of major developments at the international, national, and state levels. All of this is available for exploration and download from our interactive data visualization platform.

Using a suite of proprietary and open-source models, the ClimateDeck provides an emissions inventory and interactive projection system for all 50 US states, broken down by sector and energy source, and covering the full range of atmospheric greenhouse gases. Users also receive regular and timely analysis from Rhodium’s team of policy experts, economists, energy modelers, climate scientists, and data engineers. Our annual Taking Stock report is the gold standard for objective, up-to-date analysis of how legislative and regulatory action at the US federal and state level affects energy markets and GHG emissions, in a framework consistent with accounting methodologies of the US government and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. And we’ve become a leading and trusted source on the climate and economic implications of a range of topics, from carbon pricing policy, to vehicle fuel economy standards, to industrial decarbonization.

Greenhouse Gas Inventories

Emissions inventories at the international, national, and US state levels, available for every economic sector and energy source

Energy and Emissions Projections

Responsive projections for all 50 US states, updated annually to reflect current policies and market variables, and soon to be expanded to include global projections for the world and all major economies

Greenhouse Gas Inventories

The ClimateDeck provides economy-wide emissions inventories at the international, national, and US state levels. The inventories include the full range of Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gases (GHG), including methane, nitrous oxide, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and are broken down by economic sector, based on IPCC GHG inventory methodologies.

The ClimateDeck includes a unique emissions inventory for each of the 50 US states, which is consistent with EPA’s national GHG inventory. It provides unique insights into opportunities and challenges surrounding climate and clean energy policymaking at the state level.

In the spring of 2021, the ClimateDeck will also provide an update of global historical GHG emissions data, comprised of country-level emissions estimates from over 190 countries, for the years 1990-2019.

Energy and Emissions Projections

The ClimateDeck provides detailed, regularly updated, economy-wide energy and emissions projections for the US, including updated renewable energy, battery and other technology costs, and macroeconomic and behavioral dynamics. It delivers projections of annual GHG emissions for all 50 states through 2030, with projections updated on an annual basis to account for all major policy changes at the federal and state level. We also project changes in major energy market variables, including power generation capacity, electric vehicle sales, transportation fuel demand, and building energy consumption.

Starting in 2021, the ClimateDeck will also provide the same robust assessment of the GHG implications of current policy for the world and all major economies.

Data Platform

Interactive, tailored online platform with adjustable inputs and production-ready data visualizations

Policy and Market Analysis

Regular and timely research notes by Rhodium experts, analyzing current clean energy and climate policy developments

Data Platform

Users receive access to Rhodium GHG inventory data and energy and emissions projections through an interactive online platform. The ClimateDeck enables users to explore datasets through user-friendly visualizations and tailor them to different scenarios and comparisons by adjusting inputs such as timeframe, geography, sector, gas, and energy market assumptions. The adjustable datasets can be exported as production-ready visualizations and as CSV files.

Users can request the addition of any third-party data they would like to track and visualize regularly, including from the Energy Information Administration, International Energy Agency, and Environmental Protection Agency. These datasets are updated regularly, equipping users with automated data aggregation and processing, and user-friendly data visualizations.

Policy and Market Analysis

Users receive regular and timely Rhodium research notes analyzing major clean energy and climate policy developments at the international, federal, and state levels. Research topics range from state-level renewable energy policy to federal regulations to international developments. Our analysis helps users understand the impact of legislative and regulatory action on economic output, energy markets, and emissions. Rhodium makes the underlying data for a number of these research notes available through the ClimateDeck, allowing users to take a deeper dive.
